The NET conference philosophy is unique: you will select theme sessions to attend and remain in each session with a group of colleagues allowing for in-depth discussion and debate. You have the opportunity to attend two theme sessions which are most relevant to your professional interests and expertise. Highly experienced convenors facilitate the in-depth and wide-ranging group discussion in these sessions and delegates contribute their experiences to the continuity of the debate.

This year’s conference theme groups are:

Curriculum Innovations and Enhancement
E-learning, including blended learning
Interprofessional learning and working
Learning and teaching strategies

Educational Context
Internationalisation and global challenges in healthcare education

Partnership Working
Education in clinical practice and practice development
Effective partnership working

Students, Teachers and Service Users
Developing teachers
Enhancing the student experience
Humanising healthcare education

The date for submitting an abstract for NET2012 is now closed. We will be receiving abtracts for NET2013 in the Autumn. Information about submitting an abstract is on the Call for abstracts page.

Core presentations
Each theme group starts with the presentation of a core paper which offers vision, depth, breadth and perspective to provide a context for effective group discussion.

Theme presentations
Theme papers are presented after the relevant core paper. They address the theme, are innovative and contribute to the debate.

Student presentations and best student abstract
The NET2012 Organising Committee actively encourages papers from pre-registration students. Students bring a vital perspective to the debate and this is an ideal opportunity for students to share their ideas in theme group sessions in a supportive and inclusive environment.

For the winning pre-registration student abstract submission we are delighted to offer:
one free place at NET2012
travel expenses up to £500.

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the best student abstract for NET2012 is The impact of non-preceptor nursing staff on student learning in the clinical setting by Caitlin Bowron and Alanna Webster from McMaster University - Mohawk College, Hamilton, Canada.

We are also able to offer a number of assisted places for full-time students on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact the NET conference office to discuss how to reserve one of these places.

First-time presenter prize
HEAFor NET2012 we are delighted that the Higher Education Academy will award a first-time presenter prize of a £50 Amazon token. The winner of the first-time presenter prize for NET2011 was Becci Jones, Lecturer in Child Nursing, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, University of Bedfordshire, UK.

This is an ideal opportunity for those who have not presented at ANY conference before to present a paper in a supportive environment. If you have a co-author who is not a first-time presenter they may attend the conference, but must not take part in the presentation or answer any questions. You may give a joint presentation if both of you are first-time presenters. This must be the first-ever presentation at ANY conference and only first-time presenters may give the presentation.

The award criteria are:
academic content
presentation skills
ability to engage the audience and respond to questions.

Please ensure when submitting your abstract that it is marked ‘first-time presenter’. There will not be another opportunity to indicate you are a first-time presenter.

Symposia
Symposia presentations have now become a permanent feature of the NET programme. You will have an opportunity to join your choice of symposia. Each symposium will consist of a number of linked presentations on a single, leading edge topic and will give presenters and participants the time to explore a contemporary issue in depth. This is an ideal opportunity to explore a leading edge topic that might not be addressed by this year’s conference themes.

Posters
A wide range of posters cover topical and emerging issues regarding the future of healthcare education. Posters will be displayed in the main tea and coffee area and authors will present their posters at key times.

There will be a special prize, kindly donated by Elsevier, for the best poster as voted for by delegates - so make sure you vote for your favourite! The following criteria should be taken into account when voting:

Elsevier_logothe contribution the poster makes to healthcare education
clarity of purpose and message
accuracy and quality of content
presentation and impact
innovation in design.
