Information for presenters

Whether or not you have presented at the NET conference before, this section may well be helpful to you. It gives you some ideas that might make your presentation participative and interactive.

Give a brief introduction to your paper
Extract the key points from your paper and present these as bullet points
Engage with the participants in a way that suits your presentation style
Draw your presentation to a close by giving an appropriate summary of lessons learnt and implications for healthcare education and practice.

All presenters must register as full paying delegates for the conference. You can register online or use the registration leaflet which will be available in mid-March. To be able to present your paper you must register for the conference by Friday 1 June 2012. Payment is not needed by this date, but we will need to know how you will be paying and this should be indicated on the form.

In response to delegate feedback, this year we will be making the core papers and all other abstracts available on our website two weeks before the conference. These will only be accessible to delegates who have registered for the conference and we will issue a password to those delegates. We will not be providing the core papers and abstracts in booklets at the conference, instead all delegates will receive them on a memory stick as part of the delegate pack. If you have any queries about this please contact the conference office.

Core paper presenters

Core paper presenters should be aware that core papers are vital to the theme sessions; they set the scene and help direct the discussion and debate for the rest of the session. Your core paper must offer the necessary vision, depth, breadth and strategic/policy perspective to provide a suitable context to facilitate effective group discussion of relevant issues.

An integral part of the conference is the availability of the core papers as part of the delegate pack. Therefore core paper presenters will need to prepare their full paper, of approximately 2,000 words plus references, to be sent to us by Friday 1 June 2012.

References should use the Harvard referencing style. Please be sure they are correct. Click here for house style.
Please bear in mind when preparing your paper, whether you are from the UK or overseas, you should not use local jargon, abbreviations or ‘shorthand’ in your paper or when delivering your presentation. Any abbreviations should be explained.
45 minutes has been allocated for core paper presentations and we suggest you allow about 30 minutes for the presentation and about 15 minutes for group discussion.

Photocopying: If you wish to distribute handouts at the conference please bring between 20-30 copies with you.

Theme paper presenters

30 minutes has been allocated for theme paper presentations and suggest you allow about 20 minutes for the presentation and about 10 minutes for group discussion.

Symposia presenters

The session for symposia presentations is 90 minutes. You will need to divide this time between the different papers and make sure you leave enough time for group discussion and questions. We would suggest allowing 20-25 minutes for discussion and questions.
Please bear in mind when preparing your presentation, whether you are from the UK or overseas, you should not use local jargon, abbreviations or ‘shorthand’. Any abbreviations should be explained.

Photocopying: If you wish to distribute handouts at the conference please bring between 30-40 copies with you.

Poster presenters

Points to consider when preparing your poster:

Keep the content simple, clear and brief – people will not stand for long periods reading a poster, particularly if there are plenty of others to see
Organise it clearly, with an eye-catching introduction, main body and conclusion
If you are designing the poster yourself, don’t be tempted to use too many fonts – two or three is usually enough
Ensure the font size is big enough to read when standing a few feet from the poster
Use colour to highlight important points, but again, keep to a small number of colours
Try to add graphics to give more visual appeal
Don’t overfill the poster – leave plenty of white space
Be creative, but keep in mind the message of the poster
Have an accompanying handout giving further details, references to your published work and contact details.·

Poster_sizePoster size
The display area for your poster is
3 feet wide and 4 feet high.

Please ensure your poster does
not exceed this size.

Fixing
Your poster should be fixed with Velcro. Please ensure you bring plenty with you, as we cannot provide you with these materials.

Photocopying
If you wish to distribute handouts at the conference, please bring these with you. Having handouts or A4 versions of the posters has proved very popular with delegates and so I suggest that you arrange to do this.

Location of poster boards
The boards will be in the central tea and coffee area alongside the exhibitors. The poster boards will be labelled with a number and the poster title. Please find the board that relates to your work and attach your poster leaving the label in place; delegates can then clearly identify your work when voting for the best poster prize.

Poster PrizeElsevier_logo
There will be a special prize, kindly donated by Elsevier, for the best poster.
