Venue, accommodation and directions

Cambridge’s unique setting on the banks of the River Cam, the ‘backs’ and the magnificent architecture of the University buildings all combine to make Cambridge one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Britain. It is not too large and has all the amenities you would expect from a University city.

Cambridge is about 60 miles north of London, and is easily accessible by train from London (under an hour’s journey) and by air from Heathrow, Norwich or Stansted Airports.

robinson_collegeThis year the conference will be held at Robinson College, Grange Road, Cambridge, CB3 9AN, UK. For directions on getting to Robinson College please see the attached information. Alternatively visit Robinson College's website:  http://www.robinson.cam.ac.uk/contact/directions.php

Robinson College is one of the newest colleges in the University of Cambridge. It was founded with a donation by the entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir David Robinson and formally opened in 1981. It now has 80 Fellows, and around 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The College is a short walk from the city centre and the site centres around the large tranquil garden and lake.

Car parking
There is very limited street parking in the roads around Robinson College. If you are intending to drive to the conference Robinson College provide parking facilities at a nearby car park. They charge £3.00 + VAT per car, per day. To reserve a parking space you will need to book it when you register to attend the conference and this will be available on our registration form. The car park is just under 1 kilometer away and a shuttle bus will be provided between the car park and the college at various key times. A timetable of these times will be sent to you with other attendance information in July.

robinson_roomAccommodation
Conference accommodation will be available at two halls of residence: Robinson college (right) and Selwyn college (below). Selwyn college is a 6 minute walk from Robinson college and is on the same road, Grange Road. For directions to Selwyn see their website: http://www.sel.cam.ac.uk/college/directions/

selywn_bedroomBoth venues have good size ensuite bedrooms. At Robinson collge the rooms have bathrooms with a shower over the bath and at Selwyn college the rooms have a shower room. Beds are made with duvets in covers; bath and hand towels are provided as well as a complimentary vanity pack. Tea- and coffee-making facilities with mineral water are provided. Rooms at Robinson college have radio alarm clocks and many bedrooms have private balconies. The rooms at Selwyn do not have radio alarm clocks or balconies.

Robinson college has just completed a major upgrade of its IT provision and both colleges are able to offer free wi-fi in all of the bedrooms as well as all public areas of the colleges. Guests will, of course, need to provide their own laptop.

Both Robinson and Selwyn Colleges have rooms situated on the ground floor and most bedrooms at Robinson and all bedrooms at Selwyn are accessible by lift. It might be helpful for guests to take into consideration that at Robinson college some of the rooms are located on upper floors which are accessible only by between one and five flights of stairs.

We will send information about which accommodation has been reserved for you, as well as directions, by email two weeks before the conference. If you have any particular preference for either residence please let us know when you register for the conference.

If you have any questions regarding any aspects of this conference please speak to Anna at Jill Rogers Associates.
