Communicating policy in ways that are appealing to the target audience is challenging. At JRA we have many years’ experience of working with national, regional and local clients to ensure that important policy messages are communicated effectively to professionals and the public. Below are success stories of how the JRA team have achieved this for our clients.

Midwifery 2020

JRA worked with the Midwifery 2020 team and specialists across the United Kingdom to write, design, edit and print the landmark report: Midwifery 2020: Delivering expectations. Our role was to integrate five major reports into a single, relevant report that has been widely circulated across the United Kingdom. Midwifery 2020 was a unique four-country initiative that has set the direction for the midwifery profession for the future.

Department of Health: Transforming community services guides

This series of best practice guides were designed and edited by JRA for the Department of Health. The guides play a vital role in the delivery of the intentions for High Quality for all: the Next Stage Review by setting out ambitions and how these are to be achieved. JRA developed a design that means these guides are readily accessible to professionals and present the key messages clearly and succinctly.

Modernising nursing careers: setting the direction

The Department of Health asked JRA to write, design and print this landmark report on behalf of the four countries of the Untied Kingdom to set the direction for modern nursing careers. Working with a small group, JRA wrote the report and developed an appealing design that has lead to the report being widely used and acted on across the UK.

Handling concerns about the performance of healthcare professionals

The JRA team worked with the Department of Health and the National Clinical Assessment Service to develop this important booklet for healthcare professionals. JRA worked with an expert group to define good practice in handling performance concerns among professional staff. The booklet was widely disseminated across the health service and has been widely used to improve ways to handle concerns about performance.

Supporting people with long term conditions

JRA worked with the Department of Health to research, write, and publish this guide for nurses who work with people with long term conditions. The guide explored their new role, the introduction of community matrons and highlighted examples of good practice. The guide has been used extensively and has informed the development of services for people with long term conditions.

Silicone breast implants: the report of the Independent Review Group

The Medical Devices Agency [now the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory products Agency] commissioned JRA to write, edit, design and print this important report for clinicians, scientists, manufacturers and the general public. The JRA team synthesised large amounts of information, planned the structure of the report and wrote it in suitable language for the varied audiences. JRA developed a design so that complex information was accessible to the range of readers. The report set a new standard for writing and presentation of complex information.

Liberating the talents: helping PCTs and nurse to deliver the NHS Plan

When the Department of Health wanted to produce an exciting guide for primary care trusts, they approached JRA to work with them to write, design and produce over 40,000 copies of a guide to provide PCTs and frontline staff with a new framework for planning and delivering nursing service. The guide included over 60 examples of innovations.
