Learning resources

Paper-based learning resources provide flexible, portable, and accessible materials for trainers, professional learners and students. JRA have developed many innovative learning materials and toolkits that have been widely used by professionals throughout the UK.

Check out these examples of the resources we have developed for a variety of professional groups.

The Solihull Approach: resource packs

Solihull_resourcesThe Solihull Approach is a visionary concept to working with children and families to improve the mental health of the nation developed by a team led by Dr Hazel Douglas at Solihull NHS Care Trust. We have worked with the Solihull Approach team for over 10 years to write, field test, design and publish a substantial series of resources for professionals working with families with infants, children and young people, and with adoptive parents and foster parents. The resources include an extensive range of practical handouts in printed and electronic format for use with parents and children, and are supported by workshops, cascade training and a helpline to the Solihull team. The resources include a government-approved Parenting course which has proved highly successful in developing parenting skills among parents with children of all ages.

Health_visitor_School_nurseWe worked with the Department of Health team to develop innovative toolkits for health visitors and school nurses. JRA were responsible for the editorial development, liaison with the working group and steering group, development of the content, design concepts and for designing and publishing the resources. Both toolkits focus on ways in which professionals can work to achieve the modernisation agenda for the health service.

Preparation of supervisors of midwives
http://www.nmc-uk.org

Supervisors_of_midwivesSupervisors of midwives play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of maternity care. JRA developed the first, second and third editions of this highly successful open learning resource. Together with an expert steering group and with clinicians with specific expertise, we identified the major challenges for supervisors of midwives and developed materials to ensure that they had the knowledge and support they need to fulfil their vital role. We were commissioned by the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and subsequently the Nursing and Midwifery Council to produce these resources.
